Cesária Évora is one of the most important names in Cape Verdean music. During the time he performed, he made Morna and Coladera, two music styles native to Cape Verde, known to the whole world.

The museum is located in the center of Mindelo, in a Neo-Classical building from colonial times, which was later reconverted into a museum.
