Rua da Banana – The oldest street in Cape Verde
This famous street connects the entrance of the Old City to the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Part of the historic center of the Old Town, elevated to World Heritage status in 2009 by UNESCO, Rua da Banana combines a landscape of historic houses, many built of stone, with beautiful greenery.
It is the perfect opportunity to visit a street that has existed since the 15th century, perfectly integrated into nature, and which represents the typical Cape Verdean streets.
Why visit?
Banana Street is close to many other attractions in the Old City. Its historical importance makes it a relevant place to visit.

What to bring?
In the Old City you may want to buy souvenirs, for a gift, from the street vendors that walk around there. Therefore, you should bring some local money (Cape Verde Escudos).
We should capture the beauty of Banana Street and the other interesting places around it, and save it for posterity.
Despite the fantastic temperature that is usually experienced here, if you visit Rua da Banana in the late afternoon and decide to stay for dinner, you may want to bring something in long sleeves, although not too hot.
