For the true of Catholicism, and for many people of other religions, Pope John Paul II was one of the most iconic leaders of the Catholic Church for his commitment to peace and love.

The monument of the Pope’s Cross was erected to mark the Papal visit to Cape Verde, which took place in 1990, being the first ever visit of the church’s top official to the country. This imposing monument is located in a garden where you can observe the cross on one side and on the other a representative sculpture of John Paul II.
